Commencement Update!


Congratulations on wrapping up the school year! Please find information below about the photo submission for the Individual Recognition slide for the virtual commencement ceremony.

Photo Submission Requirements

Please read the guidelines below.

  • Your photo can be of you in cap/gown, professional attire, United States Armed Forces or Police uniform or Calumet College gear.
  • Please NO selfies, have someone take your photo.
  • The photo must be a current portrait from the top of the head to the top of the chest.
  • Your face must be clearly visible and facing forward – no profile shots, shadows, or sunglasses or hats. Graduation cap is acceptable.
  • The photo must be in color.
  • You must be the only person in the photo.
  • Background must be uniform white or solid background. Grad Images background is acceptable.
  • Nothing can be touching the face such as hands, props or other distractions.
  • No costumes.

Please do NOT mail in a photo. You must submit an electronic version to: commencement@ccsj.edu. We must receive your photo by June 5 if you would like a photo included on your Individual Recognition Slide. Photos which do not meet the requirements will not be processed. You will be notified by email the reason the photo was not accepted.


Given the current challenges we’re all facing with the COVID-19 pandemic, we have decided to cancel all CCSJ in-person commencement 2020 activities. We’re ironing out the details but we plan to hold a virtual conferring of student degrees in June. We look forward to honoring our students, their achievements, and contributions and to celebrating with everyone’s friends and families. Below are answers to questions we have been receiving. Commencement Application

Application

Please keep in mind that the graduation process is not automatic. Students who do not complete the application for graduation by the applicable deadline will not be awarded/degreed until the next graduation term. Log into your MyCCSJ account to complete your graduation checklist and apply for graduation.
You must complete the following steps under Graduation Checklist to apply for graduation: Review Personal Information, Review Student Billing Account, and Apply for Degree. If you plan to participate in Commencement, you must complete the graduation application no later than the date specified.

If you have submitted your graduation application and have not paid your graduation fee by the due date, you will not be eligible to participate in the commencement exercise.

Fees

A $125.00 graduation fee will be assessed for all associate and bachelor degree recipients and a $150 graduation fee for all master degree recipients upon completion of the graduation application. These fees are incurred for all graduates whether or not they participate in the Commencement ceremony.

Tickets

All guests, including children, must have a ticket to attend the Commencement Exercise. Each student participating in the commencement ceremony will receive 4 tickets to the commencement exercise. The number of tickets available for each student is based upon the size of the respective graduating class. In order to comply with the maximum occupancy laws for the Dennis and Leslie Rittenmeyer Athletic Center, the commencement ticket allotment for each graduating student is final; there are no extra tickets. We cannot replace lost, stolen or misplaced tickets. Tickets are distributed at Grad Finale or afterwards at the college. Your tickets will be forfeited if you do not claim them by Friday, May 8, 2020.

Grad Finale

Wednesday, March 11, 2020

Grad Finale, a Graduation Fair, is a one stop shop for graduates. Here you can check, your graduation status, purchase your cap and gown, class rings, and announcements with a representative from Jostens. You can also pick up your graduation tickets, have a professional picture taken, and much more.

Commencement Regalia Policy

  • Candidates for degrees must wear robes appropriate to their degree without additional adornment.
  • Students are entitled to wear cords and stoles to signify achievement through Calumet College organizations.
  • Graduate candidates for master's degrees will be hooded during the commencement ceremony. The hood should not be worn for the preliminary academic procession. Candidates are responsible for bringing their hood to commencement and will carry it on stage for the Hooding during the ceremony.
  • December and May undergraduate degree candidates, who will graduate with honors or distinction wear gold stoles. By decision of the Faculty Senate, August graduates with honors or distinction will not receive their stole until their course requirements have been fulfilled and a final GPA has been determined. August graduates with honors or distinction will be recognized as an honors candidate in the commencement program. Stoles other than the aforementioned will not be allowed.
  • Degree candidates place tassels on the right side of the mortarboard until their degrees are conferred at Commencement. The tassels are switched to the left side as a part of the ceremony and are worn on that side at college and school ceremonies and any time thereafter.

Any questions regarding academic regalia may be directed to the Vice President of Academic Affairs or the Vice President of Student Engagement and Retention.

Academic Garment (Cap and Gown) Online Ordering

Academic garments must be ordered through Jostens starting at Grad Finale. If you are not able to attend Grad Finale, online ordering will go live at the Jostens’ website (www.jostens.com, go to Find My School’s Store), starting Thursday, March 12 until Friday, April 3 at midnight. The cost of the cap and gown are included in your graduation application fee, however, you are responsible for the shipping and handling charges. From April 4 – May 1 students will only be able to place cap and gown orders via phone with Jostens. Late fees do apply and graduates will be responsible for any late charge or fees from this point.

December and May undergraduate Bachelor’s degree candidates, who will graduate with honors or distinction, wear a gold honor stole. By decision of the Faculty Senate (3/21/18), August undergraduate Bachelor’s degree candidates with honors or distinction will wear a gold honor candidate stole until their course requirements have been fulfilled and a final GPA has been determined. August undergraduate Bachelor’s degree candidates with honors or distinction will be recognized as honors candidates in the commencement program. Stoles, other than the aforementioned, will not be allowed.

Legacy Cord

Cement your legacy on CCSJ by donating $20.20 to the Alumni Association. With each donation you will receive a legacy cord that can be worn during commencement to show your spirit and lasting commitment to CCSJ.

Graduation Banquet and Awards Ceremony

The cost for the banquet is $25.00 per person with a cash bar. Tickets for the event can be purchased online at BrownPaperTickets.com. Due to limited seating, reservations are required. Tickets cannot be purchased on the evening of the banquet. The last day to purchase tickets is May 7th, 2020.

Baccalaureate Mass

Graduates and their family and friends are invited to attend the celebration of the Catholic Mass prior to the graduation ceremony. Tickets are not required. Graduates are asked to wear their academic regalia. Complimentary van service will be provided to and from the Mass from CCSJ.

Commencement Exercise

Dennis and Leslie Rittenmeyer Athletic Center

Graduates are expected to arrive promptly at 10:30 a.m. with their cap and gown to register and receive instructions. Registration will occur in the main building on the second floor across from the elevators. The doors to the Rittenmeyer Center will open to the public at 11:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. for guests with special needs.

Other Important Information

Financial Aid

If you have accepted student loans while attending CCSJ, government regulations require you to complete student loan counseling. This counseling can be completed at www.nslds.ed.gov. An explanation of your rights/responsibilities as a student loan borrower will be presented as well as a review of important student loans details; such as interest rates, loan repayment options, and deferment or forbearance options.

Special Accommodations

Due to limited seating, a maximum of one family member or friend may be seated in the special needs seating section with the disabled guest. Prior arrangements are required due to limited seating. Limited handicap parking for guests is available in the rear of the building. Wheelchairs will not be provided by CCSJ. Candidates and guests with special accommodations must contact Angela Szczepanik-Sanchez at (219) 473-4349 or aszczepaniksanchez@ccsj.edu prior to Saturday, May 18.

Professional Photographer

A photographer from Grad Images will photograph you as you cross the stage to receive your diploma. All photos can be viewed and ordered online at www.gradimages.com. A confidential photo proof will be emailed to your CCSJ email with viewing and purchasing instructions. For additional information, contact Grad Images at 1-800-261-2576.

Photographs will be taken at all commencement activities such as Grad Finale, the Graduation Banquet and Awards Ceremony, Baccalaureate Mass and Commencement. Your image/photographic likeness may be used for publicity or general information purposes including publication on the CCSJ website or within other publicity which may be seen by the general public.
